Refining Your Focus

Proverbs 4:25-26 "Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you. Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure."

Okay, today is the day... today is the day I am going to start getting back in shape... today is the day that I am going to start eating healthier... today is the day that I am going to [fill in the blank here]. How many of you have said these things and then never followed through? ✋ I know I have.

But what stops us from these dreams, is it sheer laziness? I believe the number one culprit is your focus. It's easy to focus on the end goal, what we want, but the true test comes in the process. If you aren't focused on the process, you will lose hope in your dream. You can't jump into your dream without being battle tested.

James 1:2-3 says, "Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance." Abraham Lincoln didn't just become President overnight. Lincoln lost 8 elections, had 2 failed businesses and suffered a nervous breakdown... but he didn't quit. Now I'm not saying you have to endure all of that failure in order to do something great, but there will be hardships. But these hardships are God refining you to become the person He wants you to be.

So stop buying into the lie that life will get better when you get a new car, or life will get better if you just had a spouse. Instead, focus on where you are right now in life. God did not forget about you, He has you exactly where you are right now for a reason. Pour into Him and watch yourself become your dream.
