Be strong and courageous!
That’s easy for you to say right? The Bible encourages us to “Be of good courage”. Psalms 31:24 says “Be strong and courageous, all you who put your hope in the Lord”. But sometimes that's hard to do.
To be a successful athlete, especially at a high level, you must have courage. It takes courage to stand in against a 90 mph fastball. It takes courage as a receiver to go over the middle of the field when you know you are going to be crushed by the safety.
But even more difficult is to have courage in our faith. Courage is defined as the ability to do something that frightens you. It’s not the absence of fear but the ability to overcome those fears. We are constantly faced with decisions in our walk that challenge our courage. It takes courage to stand up for your faith. It takes courage to do the right thing even when everyone else is doing something different.
Isaiah 41:6 says “Each one helps the other, and says to another “Take Courage!” This is a great encouragement on how important it is for us to have “teammates” in the faith that can help us "Take Courage." When we surround ourselves with other believers it is easier to be courageous and do the right thing.
Let me encourage you. The next time you face a tough situation, press into God and be strong and courageous. If we are willing to be courageous we will experience new opportunities and reach new heights both in our athletic careers and also our walk with Christ.
